He said: do you not see how weak the Ummah is, and especially you (HT)?
I said: Yes, I do
He continued: Then how do you speak with surety and confidence that there will be a victory, and a Khilafah that can defeat America and Europe? Are you not selling to the people an illusion of big aspirations, and impossible victories?
I replied:
"Ponder the four promises of Rasulallah (saw):
1. When the Prophet (pbuh) and his companions were oppressed in Mecca, and could not even protect themselves from the harm, he made a promise to al-Khabbab (ra): By Allah, this religion (i.e. Islam) will prevail until a traveler from Sana (in Yemen) to Hadramaut will fear none but Allah."
2. When the Prophet (pbuh) migrated to Medina secretly in order to avoid Quraish, he was caught by Suraqah, but promised him the bangles of Chosroes of Persia.
3. Before the Battle of the Trench, the Prophet (pbuh) was struggling in digging a trench around Medina with his Companions, preparing for the thousands of the disbelievers travelling to Medina in order to destroy it. As they struggled in their hard work, he (pbuh) promised them the palaces of Chosroes in Persia and the rulers of al-Sham.
4. When the Prophet (pbuh) was sitting with his companions, he promised them the conquest of Rome and Constantinople.
People at that time thought the same way as you do today. For this reason, they said at that time, "Allah and his Prophet have not promised us except illusions" [Al Ahzab, ayah 12]. And among them were those who said they were too afraid to travel small distances from their home, and ridiculed the Prophet's promises of victory over Persia and Rome?"
He said: But he was a Prophet - are you Prophets?
I answered: "No, we are not Prophets, but the one who promised Rasulallah with those promises, is the same Allah who gives us these promises. Furthermore, the Prophet who gave promises at that time is the same Prophet who gives us glad tidings today."
In conclusion, don't connect the victory from Allah (swt) to the weakness of the Muslims today, in this specific moment, but rather connect it to Allah, the All Powerful, the Mighty, the One who grants us victory.
What is relevant to us is belief, action, patience, and to be firm and consistent until the promise of Allah comes. And by Allah, it will come.
